Eremo San Quirico
APPELLATION: DENOMINATION OF CONTROLLED ORIGIN (DOC)
GRAPE VARIETY: 100% AGLIANICO
This important wine is made of grapes exclusively coming from volcanic fields in the hills around Paternopoli village (colli Taurasini area), in the Avellino Province. Local legends tell that in these fields horses where used to graze free around the Hermitage of San Quirico, the ruins of which are still visible. From these legends this special wine gets its name. This wine is so precious that it deserved to be dressed with a work of art of the contemporary artist Moreno Bondi to combine e special wine with a special label.
This wine received several prices at both national and international level, and is considered one of the best Aglianico on the market.
Grapes are harvested by hand and transported in small boxes of 20 kg each to the winery where they are subject to light pressing and then left for maceration for about 20 days in steel silos where they undergo alcoholic fermentation. At the end of fermentation, the wine is separated from grape skins and transferred in new French oak barrels of 225hl for 12 to 18 months.
This wine is very concentrated, the palate is dense and persistent. On the nose it has aromas of ripe red fruits, cherries and spices. The barrel aging supports the wine with additional character without covering the original aromas.
